Here are the major grant participants:
14 public libraries in Bastrop, Buda, Hays and Williamson counties
3 Head Start agencies in the same counties
As of today, September 25, we're still nailing down exactly who does what. Public libraries and home offices of the three Head Start agencies may be somewhat familiar with the grant. We're working fast to get information to classroom teachers but want things laid out clearly. Plus we'd like for school to settle in.
So, here's a short Ready to Read "who does what" synopsis:
- Library staff LEARN how to use the early literacy class materials
- Library staff REACH out into the community to teach the classes, primarily with our major partner, Head Start
- Head Start centers work with library staff to schedule and publicize early literacy classes for parents. Head Start teachers can also come.
- Library staff TEACH early literacy classes.
- Head Start teachers help gather evaluations from parents on the effectiveness of the training.
- The Central Texas Library System manages the grant and all of its activities. Suzan Nyfeler, CTLS Youth Services manager, is the grant manager.
The grant runs from September 2008 to August 2009. Classes will be taught January to July 2009. Our goal is to reach 2000 parents, caregivers and teachers so they can lay the groundwork for young children to become Ready to Read!
