Volunteer Project
GOAL:
- Create 6 book lists useful for parents and librarians
- Books must be available (in print)
- Will verify through review in Books in Print Database or other suitable sources
Steps
- Create way to share info (Ready to Read wiki preferable)
- Look at current lists
- Identify any items in current list that are out of print or "hard to find". These will be noted on spreadsheet.
- Look at other sources for suggestions
- Criticas
- Scholastic
- Amazon reviews
- Book List
- School Library Journal
- ALA lists
- Other early literacy projects' lists
- Parent resources including media/Web resources
- Teacher resources including media/Web resources
- Come up with combined lists
- Identify qualitative categories for items on list to assist in evaluation (to be determined, possibly including "classics" or "award-winners" or "books for 2008 or 2009")
- Provide short synopses of books for evaluation and possible inclusion in final handouts
- Whittle list
Timeframes
- Identify out of print/hard to find items on current list by end of June
- Identify likely sources for suggestions and compile lists - end of June
- Identify possible books and fill in details regarding categories and synposes - end of July
- Consult on whittling of list, prepare final documents for editing and any other issues - Middle of August
